Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Carpio is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and member of the American Dental Association, Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and Academy of Osseointegration. She was selected by her peers as one of the Top Periodontist in the Washington Metropolitan area, as published by the Washingtonian and Northern Virginia Magazine every year since 2006.

She has been a dentist for 30 years. She relocated from Boston MA, to Northern Virginia in 2003. In 1992, she earned a Masters Degree in Oral Sciences in conjunction with a Diploma in Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain from the University of Buffalo. At that time she conducted extensive research in dental radiography, in methods that reliably assess alveolar crest changes over time.

In 1997 she graduated as a Periodontist, and earned a Ph.D. degree in Bone Biology from the University of Buffalo. Her research focused on understanding the cellular and signaling mechanisms that regulate osteoblasts (bone-forming cells), as well as the effect of bioactive lipids on proliferation of cells of the periodontium, the tissue that surrounds teeth. Her clinical research focused on means to enhance bone formation around dental implants. Her background has led her to a profound understanding of factors that affect wound healing and periodontal/implant treatment outcomes. She has published her research in various peer review journals (see publications in her C.V.), and has lectured internationally on bone biology, and on the factors that affect periodontal and dental implant success.

Dr. Carpio spent five years in Boston, MA at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, teaching and practicing as a Periodontist and Implantologist. At Harvard, she served as the Director of the Predoctoral Periodontology Program, Senior Tutor of the Cannon Society, Director of the Research Seminar Series for Postgraduate Students, and Director of the Periodontal Literature Review Course.

In 2000, Dr. Carpio was selected by the American Academy of Periodontology as the television Spokesperson on the connection between periodontal disease and the systemic health for Hispanic Americans. Because of her solid background, Dr. Carpio has been serving as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Periodontology.

Dr. Waleed is a board-certified periodontist and implant specialist whose practice philosophy is based on fostering an environment of trust and compassion to provide high quality care to his patients. He has extensive experience in implant surgery, bone regeneration, soft tissue grafting, sinus augmentation, laser therapy and IV sedation. He is known for his dedication to providing predictable, long-lasting results while focusing on patient comfort every step of the way.
Dr. Waleed grew up in Vienna, Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech, followed by a Master’s in Biomedicine. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and then pursued advanced clinical training by completing a General Practice Residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Waleed then did his specialty training in Periodontics and Implant Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) while earning a second Master’s of Science degree.

Outside of the office, Dr. Waleed is a passionate sports enthusiast, actively participating in local soccer and tennis leagues. He enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and live music events with his wife and son.
